PH Mission, Filipino Community in Geneva Celebrate 120th PH Independence Anniversary 

GENEVA 28 June 2018 – Officials, personnel, and family members of the Philippine Mission to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva, headed by Permanent Representative Evan P. Garcia, joined the Filipino Community in the cantons of Geneva and Vaud, Switzerland at the Salle Communale of Petit Lancy in Geneva, Switzerland on 16 June 2018.

In his remarks, Ambassador Garcia recognized the patriotism and courage of the Philippine independence forefathers. “We remember their courage, perseverance, patriotism, and commitment, which Filipinos in every corner of the globe continue to try to live up to and emulate,” Ambassador Garcia said.

“We celebrate the Philippine Independence Day to renew our pledge to contribute in building a more peaceful, progressive and prosperous Philippines,” the Ambassador added.

The celebration, which adopted a Barrio Fiesta theme this year, was a full-day event composed of four parts, namely children’s play dubbed “Palarong Pinoy Para sa mga Bata”, the main program, a fashion show of Filipino traditional costumes, and a talent contest dubbed “Tagisan ng Galing”. Food stalls showcasing various Filipino food and products were also an attraction during the day-long celebration.

The Filipino Community Philippine Independence Day celebration was spearheaded by the Ugnayan Bayan, the federation of Filipino community organizations in Canton Geneva and Vaud in Switzerland. END
